Self Portrait Sketch, 2017

self portrait sketch - 2017 - 3x2
Eduardo Suré; Self Portrait Sketch, 2017; Graphite

It’s been one year since I started teaching myself to draw and paint, so I thought I’d try a self portrait. I looked in a mirror as I sketched this. It would have been easier to draw from a photo, but not as original. I found it challenging to use a mirror, but fun. I’ll use this sketch as the structure for the painting. I’ll post that next.

  1. Good for you! A self portrait is one of the most cherished subjects art lovers can find! It demands patience and honesty beyond any other kind of portrait they may create. Glad you are going boldly. I look forward to seeing the painting that develops from this.

    1. Thank you for your comment, Carol. I definitely agree with you about patience: the model would not be still! 😉 Halfway through the sketch, I realized I should have sat down. In one way I feel dishonest: I see a mirror image of myself, but others don’t. I think the real me is the person others see.
